Program Assistants are current students who have studied abroad on one or more study abroad programs at Illinois. Program Assistants staff the Advising and Resource Center and are here to help you in your program search.

Studied abroad in Ireland & Costa Rica

Alejandra joined IAGE August 2017. She is a Junior at the School of Social Work. She studied abroad her sophomore year in Ireland Fall of 2016 and Costa Rica Spring 2017. Alejandra enjoys encouraging other students to study abroad. She is a first generation Latina college student and a huge advocate for education, travel, and community service.

Studied abroad in Italy

Alex Willis is a Senior studying Economics at Illinois. She studied abroad during her Junior Fall semester, Fall ’16, in Milano, Italy. While in Milano, she studied the Italian’s media, culture, language, and food/drinks. She enjoys advising perspective study abroad students, because she wants them to feel heard, related to, comfortable, and happy with their start and continuation of the study abroad experience.

Studied abroad in Spain

Bre is a senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences with a minor in Spanish hoping to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy. She started working for the office in August of 2017. She studied abroad for a semester in Granada, an enchanting city in the south of Spain. Bre's favorite part about interacting with and advising students is being able to use her experiences to help them with theirs. She enjoys putting student's minds at ease and watching them walk out of the office visibly calmer and more confident than when they walked in.

Studied abroad in Austria

Caitlyn joined IAGE in the Fall of 2017 as a Marketing Program Assistant. She is a senior in advertising with a minor in both business and public relations. She spent her time abroad in Klagenfurt, Austria in the Spring of 2017. Her favorite part about marketing for IAGE is getting to encourage students to study abroad and show them what an amazing opportunity it is through the use of media.

Elisabeth is a senior majoring in psychology. She started working for the office in August 2017. She studied abroad Summer 2015 in Arles, France; Fall 2016 in Florence, Italy at Instituto Lorenzo de’ Medici; and Summer 2017 in London, England at Arcadia London - Internship Programme. Elisabeth's favourite part of working with students is hearing about their excitement to explore new places.

Studied abroad in Cuba, Jordan, and Austria

Ester is a senior in Political Science and Arabic Studies. She studied abroad in Havana, Cuba Winter 2016,  Amman, Jordan Fall 2016, and Vienna, Austria Spring 2017. She began working at the IAGE office as a Program Assistant for the 2017-2018 year. Her time at IAGE has felt like a continuation of her study abroad because of how she gets to continually share her experiences while abroad, preserving and reliving those memories daily. Ester enjoys seeing how students are encouraged to study abroad themselves because of the stories she tells and the advice she gives.

Studied Abroad in Hong Kong

Heidi is a junior majoring in supply chain management and marketing at the University of Illinois. She started working as a program assistant at IAGE in August of 2017. Heidi studied abroad in the spring semester of 2017 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Her favorite part about advising students is getting her peers excited about going abroad. Heidi hopes that by sharing her study abroad journey, it'll inspire other students to go and create their own experience.

Jiayi is a junior student majoring in Math and Statistics. She studied in Singapore in Spring '17 and started working as a program assistant this fall semester. Her favorite thing about advising is that she always gains new perspectives about study abroad and learns from the students, and at the same time, can use what she's experienced and learned to better help students.

Mary is a senior majoring in Agricultural Consumer Economics with a minor in Portuguese. She joined the IAGE team in August 2017. She studied abroad in Piracicaba, Brazil with the University of São Paulo – ESALQ from July 2016 to July 2017. Her favorite part of advising is helping students realize their academic potential.

Studied abroad in Italy

Meghan is currently a Senior majoring in English with a minor in History. She's always loved reading and writing, and after a brief foray in the Psychology department realized that English literature was what she wanted to focus on academically. Some of her favorite authors include Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau and Elizabeth Bard, and she is currently working on completing her Senior Thesis on Midwifery and Politics. Meghan began working for Illinois Abroad and Global Exchange in August 2017 after spending a semester abroad in Rome, Italy from January-May of 2017. One of her favorite aspects of advising students is knowing that they will also have the opportunity to experience education abroad, which she believes is an important way to cultivate global understanding and appreciation.

Paulina is a senior majoring in Speech and Hearing Science, Psychology and Spanish. She started working for the office in August of 2016. She studied abroad on the LAS: S&P Study Abroad Program in Barcelona in Spring of 2016. Paulina's favorite part of advising for IAGE is seeing students who think they can't study abroad realize that they can, as well as the leadership opportunities available to program assistants from working on projects to working outreach events.

Studied abroad in Spain

 

Roberto is a junior double majoring in Communications and Political Science and minoring in Spanish. He started working at IAGE on August 2017. He studied abroad spring semester (2017) of his sophomore year. He went on the Bilbao program and studied language and culture at the University of Deusto. Roberto's favorite part of working at IAGE is helping students find programs that are compatible with their interests. Roberto's own study abroad experience was life changing and he cannot wait to help his fellow students partake in a study abroad program.

Tom joined IAGE in August 2016 and is a senior studying English with a minor in business. Tom studied abroad through IAGE in Spring 2016 in Australia at the University of Melbourne. He is excited to help students find the right programs for them as he knows there is so much to gain from the once in a lifetime experience of studying abroad.
